“Joe Simone is a chef, an excellent, classically trained chef. He’s also a charming host. How he does both, there in the tiny open kitchen, is beyond me, but he makes everyone feel as though he’s cooking for them—which of course he is—but just them.”

“When people find out what I do their first question to me is always, “What’s the best restaurant in Rhode Island?” My answer is I can’t pick one, but I have a top 10 list, depending on what you’re looking for. The Sunnyside has a very firm place on that list.”

“One look at the menu and you know you’re in the hands of someone who has chosen his favorite dishes to recreate for the hometown crowd, though he is also winning fans who will actually cross bridges to get to his brunch.”

“Chef Joe Simone honed his skills in Boston and San Francisco, and now he’s home to roost in his own breakfast, lunch, and brunch spot on the Warren River, just above Narragansett Bay, where his passion for local ingredients and Mediterranean flavors hits the spot.”

“This is the kind of good that when it arrives, you smile at your partner, maybe make a nod to each other as an acknowledgement for the pleasure to come, then it’s utter silence until the plates are clean.”

“On our last visit my wife had the crab cake special - and they were about perfect. I’ve had the fish tacos (fresh and tasty) and they have a deconstructed Mexican breakfast dish that is fun to eat and tastes great. Whether you’re in the mood for breakfast/lunch staples or something new - you’ll find it here.”

“Had brunch here this past Sunday afternoon. Brought an out of town friend with me, who after wards, declared it one of her best breakfasts of all time.”

“This is an excellent destination year round. Sunday brunch is particularly good! Warm weather allows outdoor seating ON the water. Every seat in the house has a fantastic view across the river and south into Narragansett Bay. Highly recommended. It’s where the in-the-know locals eat, and a great place to bring visitors.”
